Heimgartner hopeful of finding the ‘window’ ahead of round two at Townsville

Andre Heimgartner is ready to tackle round two of the double header this weekend for the Robson Civil Projects Townsville SuperSprint. Last week, the Kelly Racing team had two full days to prepare the cars before the round due to relocating from Darwin; however, have had five days this week to prepare.

“We’ve had this whole week to go over the cars, which has been really good. The boys have been able to strip back the car and replace even the simple things like the rear panels, which they didn’t have time to change last time. So those extra few days have certainly helped,” admitted Heimgartner.

Being the Mustang’s first outing at the Reid Park Circuit last weekend, the Kelly Racing team struggled with car set up and finding what worked while on the street style circuit.

“It was our first time at the circuit with the Mustang and we struggled to find that window and what worked and what didn’t,” admitted Heimgartner.

“We’ve got last weekend’s data to work with now and Dylan and George have come together and come up with a good plan, so we’re confident that we have now found what our deficiency was on the weekend and hopefully we can have a better run.

“The weather here is really interesting. It’s been really warm, but the wind has played a very crucial factor, in particular through the high-speed parts of the track. However, I think the weather is settling down ahead of this weekend and should be a bit calmer which is good.”

The Virgin Australia Supercars have also announced the final events and dates for the 2020 season. Crews will head to South Australia for a back-to-back weekend of racing at The Bend, before heading to New South Wales for the Bathurst finale 15-18 October.

“It’s great to have an idea of how the rest of the season looks and it’s especially great for the crews who have been away from their families for some time,” said the Kiwi.

“I’m obviously grateful that we have been able to continue racing through the pandemic. I’m keen to get back over to The Bend and of course who doesn’t love Bathurst! But, we have this weekend to tick off first which I’m also looking forward to!”

The Virgin Australia Supercars hit the track for practice one, Saturday 5th September at 10am local time.
