Andre Heimgartner has his eyes set on another successful weekend at The Bend as the Supercars take on the second consecutive round at the South Australian circuit for the OTR SuperSprint The Bend. However, this round will differ from the previous; this time racing on the shorter West circuit as opposed to the previous International circuit.
Crews have had five days to turn the cars around and Heimgartner who bagged a trophy last Sunday, is determined to continue his success.
“It was a great confidence booster for the team, bringing home the trophy last weekend,” said Heimgartner.
“We showed that we have the pace, we were consistent and hopefully we can do it all again this weekend.”
This weekend will again host qualifying and a Top Fifteen Shootout, before a 32-lap race on Saturday. Sunday will roll into two back-to-back qualifying sessions, followed by two 32-lappers.
Managing tyres will again be key, this time rear tyres will be on high alert given some tighter corners.
“Tyres were a big factor for most teams last weekend, although not so much for us,” said the 25-year old.
“We were able to manage the soft compound tyre relatively well, whilst other teams seemed to suffer dramatic tyre blistering. Hopefully, our strategy plays out well again this weekend and we can have another good run.
“The West circuit will also see a new right-hand corner, which will be one to watch out for especially on that first lap when 24 cars are going straight for it at 200km/h. It should be some good racing.”
The Kiwi will also see his 150th race start this weekend, an impressive milestone for the young racer.
“It’s pretty exciting to be hitting my 150th race start this weekend. A big thank you to all my sponsors, supporters and family for all their support along the way. Let’s hope we can have a solid weekend and bring home another trophy,” said Heimgartner.
The Supercars will take to the track for practice one on Saturday 26th September, 9:35am local time.
