Andre Heimgartner is currently sitting seventh in the Repco Supercars Championship and as he looks to maintain the momentum and continue to bank more points in the Championship standings, he’ll be pushing hard this weekend at the Beaurepaires Tasmania SuperSprint.
The 25-year-old is coming off a successful round at the Sandown event, where he consistently sat inside the top 10 for the duration of the weekend and is hoping to emulate those results this weekend.
“We had a pretty good weekend at Sandown, some moments there we were close to a podium finish, so we certainly have the pace,” said Heimgartner.
“It’s great to be sitting 7th in the standings, it is early days but obviously we want to maintain our pace and continue to come away with decent points each race weekend.”
Symmons Plains is well known for its short circuit, only 2.4km in length and has an average lap speed of 52 seconds. However, it is definitely an underestimated track, with an average speed of 167km/h and a top speed of 270km/h. The Turn 4 hairpin attracts exciting racing, providing passing opportunities.
“I really enjoy this track,” admitted the Kiwi.
“This track really makes you work hard. It’s fast paced and the field is generally really close together. The hairpin really mixes things up, making you work the brakes and of course is an opportunity to pass, so we certainly have our work cut out.
“I have previously qualified well here, I think in my first year in the Supercars Series I qualified around P6 or P7, so hopefully given our pace at previous rounds we can have a good weekend!”
The race weekend will feature three 44-lap races, one on Saturday and two on Sunday. Practice 1 will kick off on Saturday 17th April, 9:20am AEST.
