With only days between races, one would think Andre Heimgartner would take a moment to rest. Not this Kiwi – Heimgartner has instead taken the opportunity to improve on his fitness and drill into the reasons why his NED Whisky Mustang fell shy of the top 10 at the NTI Townsville 500. “I’m not one to sit around wondering,” laughed the popular Kiwi.
“I decided to get away from the track to freshen up and have spent a lot of time plotting this weekend, but also training because aside from this weekend’s race, I know we have Bathurst looming in the not too distant future.” Heimgartner was pleased to see teammate David Reynolds crack both top 10 shootouts and despite his own results shying just short of equaling Reynolds, Heimgartner found confidence. “As a team we were worked so hard after Darwin to turn around our set up and although I wasn’t challenging for a podium, we did at least find speed in our cars,” said the 26-year old. This weekend’s WD-40 Townsville SuperSprint will feature three short races. Qualifying will not feature a top 10 shootout format and the although the weekend will be held over just two days, the event will be full of highlights. “With news of Melbourne’s lockdown I feel really lucky to be up here in the warmth and the event itself feels like a festival. It’s a credit to everyone at Supercars. There’ll be Super 2 again, plus Carrera Cup and I also love watching the Stadium Super Trucks – plus live bands on the Saturday night – so I’m really looking forward to it, it should be a good event.” The Repco Supercars Championship WD-40 Townsville SuperSprint kicks off Saturday with live entertainment in the evening, as well as an array of special events.
